I think it was during the Core-Team Meeting before the TYPO3 Developer Days 2009 when Jens Hoffman told the core team of his idea to make a meeting dedicated to the TYPO3 UI.

He planned a meeting with designers, developers and managers to work focused on usability tasks. The event should be free for all attendees and it was limited to 30 people. Now this vision becomes reality. From November 14th till November 21st a jury will elect a team of 30 people you will hopefully make the vision not only a reality but also a success.

I already applied for the event and I hope I get selected for it. Not because it's free but because it's a very important task that was disregarded the last years.

If you want to get more information on the project check out http://t3uxw09.typo3.org. Don't forget to send your application for the job if you think you can bring it forward.

Announcing the caretaker release

Here is the offical copy of the official announcement: ;-)

There are still some tasks to fulfill like integrating new technologies from the current TYPO3 trunk and so we give us another month to reach our first official milestone "Alpha 1".

The due date is October 30th where we will release a first official package that can be used for testing without checking out any subversion sources. This date will also set the mark for the final run towards version 1.0.

We currently plan to release an alpha version every two weeks until the source is ready for being beta which will have a release every week. We don't think that there will be more than 3 betas due to the fact, that the beta phase is dedicated to bugfixing. This also intends, that the features freeze will be set to version "Beta 1".

When everything works out as expected we hope to release version 1.0 in the TER by end of the year.

Best wishes,
Caretaker-Team

Some of surely recognized, that this page was offline for the last 2 days. Well, I want to apologize for this even if it was not my fault. The network to the machine was somehow cut off and so it ran but was not reachable to the public.

Unfortunately it was not really possible to reconnect the server to the world wide web without disturbing other bigger internal networks and so I had to wait.

I will try to find a solution how this can be avoided in the future. Maybe I extract the TYPO3 API docs from this page and host it separately on another machine. We will see. In the mean time I will try to convert this blog to another system (I thought of Wordpress) to make blogging more convenient. (Just another try to don't let this page die. ^^)

I have to admit that it took a while this year to bring the survey online. Just too much other things came across and so we needed some weeks. But now it's done and all attendees can now tell us their opinion on the TYPO3 Developer Days 2009.

Answering all questions will take 5 to 10 minutes and I think it's worth it because it helps us to make it even better next year! You can find the survey here: http://t3dd09.typo3.org/survey0.html

Today I had the plan to start using code templates in Eclipse. Yeah I know that might be a little late but that better than never. Anyway... I use Quicksilver on my Systems which is a really nice all purpose quick launch application. I bound that application to the keyboard shortcut [Ctrl]+[Space]. Unfortunately Eclipse is using exactly this shortcut for templates.

Well, most people would think "No problem change the shortcut". Yeah, nice idea but it took me some time to figure out which shortcut I have to change. To save you some minutes here is the answer. The shortcut you have to change is called "Content Assist" and not "Template" as you might think. ^^

You know that I generate the TYPO3 API documentation from the core sources. The core contains some 3rd party libraries like the very large ADODB. My question is if I should keep them in the API documentation in order to cover the complete core code or do you think it would be okay to strip that out before generating the documentation.

I'm not sure about this and I would like to hear your opinion.
