commerce: final results

Hello,

now after having some hours of sleep I'm ready to give you a final report from our workshop in Denmark. I told you the main points in the post from saturday. Now I can give you some details on the next steps and what we still have to do before we want to release something.

As I mentioned on saturday we worked together with the guys from typoconsult and we had a look at some things they implemented for the shop and how we can implement that into commerce. Mainly there are two points we will merge into the coresystem. The first thing is a backendsearch that should make it easier to handle huge amount of data in the backend. For example if you have 40.000 products with a lot more articles a search for products and articles will help you a lot to handle them.

The second point is just the other way. Commerce will have a so called "simple mode". This will limit the shop to a structure that is not that complex than the normal mode. In this default mode you have a number of categories containing a number of products that create n articles with n prices. Very powerfull but not easy to handle after all. Many shops won't use this structure because every product has exactly one article. So the simple mode limits the shop to one-product-one-article structure. An article can still have n prices. The usability will increased in this mode by providing all input fields on one single backend form. So you don't have to go through three levels of content elements to edit your articles.

Another big part was to hand out some subprojects to external developers who will hopefully implement them within the next two or three weeks. The team will merge them into the core system and than we are ready for a first release.

Until this we will write the documentation for editors, admins and developers. We currently have the basic TypoScript references for all plugins and we will improve the manuals until the end of the next week.

We will send out the locallang files to the translators as soon as possible. Currently we don't have all labels verfied. But this shouldn't be a big problem. In the first release commerce will ship with a german, french and dutch translation. English is the default language of course. ;-)

The project description was updated and will be uploaded to TYPO3.org in the next days. Maybe it will be available here too.

The first public available version will 0.9 and not 1.0. You can interpret it like an open beta or release candidate. As soon as this version is online we will request a mailinglist and a section on the TYPO3 bugtracker.

I think that is a lot of information and I hope you like what you read. We had a hard but successful weekend. We can see a light at the end of the tunnel and don't think it's a train... ;-)

By the way... On the image you can see our working place for this weekend. Because TYPO3 is scaling down the panorama image too much, here is a direct link to our house we lived this weekend. Normally I would show you more images, for example from monday and tuesday but somehow my camera is lost! :-( I don't know if I forgot it somewhere or if I'm only to stupid to find it... Anyhow very bad. :-/

And something completely different. We tried to meet Kasper on saturday evening in Copenhagen but due to a few problems with the communication we didn't have success. :-( Bad luck I would liek to say. Anyhow it was a very nice evening. Thanks to Joen who showed us zthe city a little bit.

We also met Christian Jul Jensen (I think the most of you should know him from the lists and as core developer) who was quite interested in the dynaflex extension. :-) I'm very curious about his opinion. I sent him the most recent code from our subversion repository so he can have a look on it.

Well, this might be the longest entry I ever wrote here. Hopefully someone is reading this! ;-)

Greets,

Thomas

Hi!

Is ist possible to get an actual version of the commerce extension? Or is it only a question of days untill you release the first "official" version. I'm waiting for it since I read the article about commerce in T3N Magazin 01/2006 in January! ;-)

Regards

Chris

@Christian: Currently not! But be patient! I believe you can have a look on it quite soon, regarding to the time we already working on it ;-)

Greets,
Thomas
