Hello,
as I promised today, here is a summarize of the current state of the commerce project. :-)
As mentioned here, the commerce team met in Düsseldorf on February 11th and 12th. We discussed the open issues that have to be solved until a first release of commerce.
The good news is, that the most things are done and the remaining issues are distributed to some other people outside the team. So we can focus on more general stuff.
What we have to do is, to beautify the code and generalize the frontend mechanisms. For example that all templates fit together and that the configuration is as general as possible. So you can configure the output in all plugins the same way. In most cases this is already reality but some differences have to be merged together.
One big point, that is still open, is that the checkout will be reorganized completely before a first beta will come. That is neccessary because the current concept turned out to be a little bit too inflexible. The big advantage of the new checkout will be, that it will become as flexible as you can imagine. ;-) By the way, this is completely my part, and I'm currently working on this.
We also gone through all the open issues in our internal bugtracking system. Many of them where already solved. The few issues that where left, where assigned to the people who have to solve them within the next two weeks. Most of them are only some kind of cosmetic changes...
We had four bigger issues that where assigned to people and agencies outside of the team. We also had some things, that will be developed by external people. But that won't be things will ship with the first version. What that will be exactly is not public right now. Be surprised. ;-)
The new project description is almost finsihed and will be published here and on TYPO3.org within the next days.
We're currently in a closed beta phase and give some people read access to our SVN repository. If you are interested in help us testing and/or developing and if you have the time and the resources to do so, contact us a team(at)typo3-commerce.org.
And now, last but not least a list of features the current system already provides and what will be in until the first public beta:

Go man go! We are planning to dump Miva Merchant in favor of Commerce. We plan to install it and to help test it once it is released. Thanks for your efforts. We know this is a challenging project.
Thanks Again!
