Advanced Shop: planning the release

Hello,

I'm proud to announce, that we have first shops online that are based on tx_commerce. :-D Currently I can't tell you the addresses but they will come the next days! To be honest I also have to say, that this versions won't be the ones that will be released.

We still have to do a lot of work to bring commerce to a status that can be released. A lot of classes have to be reviewed, merged together or deleted. Some essential features have to be implemented in a better way before a first version can be released. It's question of honor that we will not provide a version that is not well written and documented and that doesn't follow the Project Coding Guidelines. But I want to give you a short overview of what allready exists:

  • A complete backend with category and order modul
  • A basket system
  • A payment system (extendable through extensions) (creditcard and invoice are build in)
  • An address management
  • A checkout module (FE)
  • A special user manual

That are the main points at the moment. I can't give an overview about all the details for each of them. All I can say is that for this things we produced a lot of code and it was a lot of work. And there is still more to come. ;-)

What we have to do the next weeks is:

  • cleaning up the code
  • fixing some smaller bugs
  • writing a developer manual
  • merging different code bases
  • ...

Stay tuned, we're on a good way as I think. I will report here if there are interesting news about tx_commerce! :-)

Greets,

Thomas

Thomas,

First I want to thank you and the Commerce team for all the hard work. Developing commerce software is difficult as you know. We appreciate your efforts.

We are currently using Miva Merchant for our church online store (yes, I know it seems funny for a church to have an online store). See http://www.ginghamsburgglobal.org if you are curious. However, we'd like to switch to Commerce when it is ready because we want to be 100% TYPO3 and because it sounds like the Commerce development team is doing a professional job of development. Maybe we can be one of your early installations in the United States.

I am also the leader of Web-Empowered Church (http://webempoweredchurch.com) which is building TYPO3 extensions and promoting the use of TYPO3 in churches around the world. So, for those churches that would like to have a online store (even if it is just to pay for events and to sell a few books) my hope is that we can point them to Commerce as well.

If you need any help proof reading English documents or testing early versions of Commerce, then please contact me. We are part of the TYPO3 community and want to help as we are able.

Thanks Again!
Mark Stephenson
