There was some kind of low activity the last days. Some of you may be interested in the reasons. If not, just skip the next paragraph.
To be honest I was bit demotivated by the descision of Kasper. At least for some hours but then I talked to some people who really helped me with the right words. Thanks to Gina and Peter for that! But I thought a lot of my role and place in the commmunity. I don't came to a satisfying result but that made me think a lot about motivations.
I talked to some people and asked them why they do what they do and what their goals are. It was not too surprising, that all of them had their very own reasons. Some had the motivation that they want to join the core-team. Some only wanted to be part of something nice. Some want's to be recognized and other just want to use it to earn money. This talks where very important for me and I'm still think about it.
If you are interested in my motivations I can just say: "it's my life". I started TYPO3 almost 4 years ago because I had to use it. But more and more I stumbled into the community and found a bunch of friendly people. Many of them could be my friends and some of them are my friends now. So for me TYPO3 became something special I really love to share my time for. Unfortunately I can't explain it in words. Maybe I can when I thought about it more than I did now. ;-)
So now it's your task! I really please you to tell me your personal motivation to be part of this community. Why do you contribute? Why don't you contribute? What is your goal?
If you don't want to write here in public, just write me an email to community(at)typo3-unleashed.net.
I hope for a lot of comments this time. Please don't disappoint me! I count on you! :-)
Greets,
Thomas

Some years ago I looked for a CMS which is OS and just "feels good". I played around with TYPO3 3.x and decided to use it in future projects. Since then I tried to use TYPO3 everywhere. Today I can solve the most webpage-projects with TYPO3 without much pain. So it's an "easy" fast to setup CMS with a lot of features. It has a friendly community and I try to give some things back by helping newbies.

hi thomas, thanx for this post!
my personal motivations in significant order:
1. since i'm a "political" person for a looooooong time - knowledge should not be owned, meaning: inspiring people to share!
2. a powerful cms, so: get.content.right. in other words this might be my personal itch.
3. fun
4. the feeling that i'm not useless (the meaning of life?), this works better if you get feedback.
5. maybe as well to earn some money, but as there are several possibilities to earn money it's more like: to earn money in a "right" way.
do you remeber the "friends" episode kasper mentioned in his keynote on t3con06 - i think this is the matching keynote... it's on the forth dvd of the t3con06.

Hi,
Frank already told one of my reasons: "inspiring people to share" So I like to help other people and so I am e.g. moderator @ typo3.net with over 10.000 postings, writing extensions for the TER and so on.
the very nice thing is, that there always comes something back. Just some examples:
- customers who support my extensions, e.g. rggooglemap to make it better
- users who like my work and spend something from the amazon wishlist
- Currently I am in Thailand for 2 weeks, helping Andreas Becker at his project and it is so much fun - 31 degrees and water 30 degrees... so some sun from the east to germany
- So much fun with other people sharing the same interests, e.g. at the T3Board
- many more things

Do you have some problems with your server or is it because of maintainance?
I hope, my answers will help you for your statistics. Nice to meet you 2010!
Hi Peter, that is already fixed. :-) Greets, Thomas
Hey, great & thanks. Hint: It should be T3DD10 in question 33, not T3DD09 ;-). Cheers, Peter
