Installer 2.0 installs TYPO3

Good news everyone!

I spent some hours with coding last night and I'm proud to announce the first version of the new installer 2.0 which is capable of installing TYPO3! :-D

The current version does only reimplement the old 1-2-3 installer with some additional things like selecting installer language (currently only english is available) and creating a custom admin account instead of a default admin:password user.

The installer 2.0 is not very nice at the moment but that will follow the next weeks. The main point is, that the framework we thought of works as expected until now and that is a big step forward because we can now start implemeting functionality for the upcoming setup-center.

The current version does only setup the database! Nothing more, nothing less. There is no setup in the backend or anything.

To test the installer, just go to the end of this article and download the extension archive. Unpack it into your typo3conf/ext directory and override your localconf.php with the empty localconf.php file from the archive. Than open your installation with a browser as you might know it.

It's highly recommend to use a fresh installation! Never install the extension in a productive environment. The extension is provided without any warranty!

I hope for your feedback.

Greets,

Thomas

Hi Thomas!

Does the new installer work with PostgreSQL too? If not: will it work with PostgreSQL in future?

Well the question is: Will TYPO3 4.2, where the new installer will be shipped with (!?), support the database abstraction right in the installer. If that isn't already on the feature wishlist in think you should post it ASAP ;)

Hi,

the DBAL support is on the feature list but not implemented yet. This will follow as soon as the original functionality works as expected.

Thomas

Hi,

it doesn't work in my test. Nothing is displayed.
Maybe the main() function in the class.tx_install_modul_installer.php is the reason why. It uses t3lib_div::getURL() to read the template file. In my opinion, therefore the curl option in php have to be enabled. On Windows with xampp this is not the standard.

Greets, Udo
