Hi,
some days ago I wrote about the switch of TYPO3 to PHP5 with the next major release 4.2! Now Michael Stucki has written an official announcement on buzz.typo3.org. I'm pretty sure that a lot of people will celebrate this and the same number of people will blame us for this. Anyway, I think it's a good decision!
