Installer: Revision 2 with complete package for easier testing

Hi,

I didn't wrote anything the last days but I was not inactive! I worked on the installer code to make it more stable. I also started the implementation of the backend.

To make it easier for you to test, I created a complete testing package which includes the complete TYPO3 core. All you have to do is downloading the file that is attached at the end of this article. Uncompress it into your webroot and call it via browser. This package schould work on almost all systems but I only tested it on Debian Linux.

The testing package is based on the most recent core sources from subversion. The code is stable so I don't expect any problems beside the installer code.

I also got a response from various people that it doesn't work on default PHP installations on Windows. Udo gave me a hint in the blog comments that the current code depends on curl which is not enabled on Windows by default. So please check that if you get an empty page at the first call of the installer.

Please note, that installer is basically capable of multilingualism but only a handful of labels are translated to german. So, currently 98% of the labels are in english!

Now downlooad the package, test it and give me some feedback please. Every response is important and appreciated! :-)

Greets,

Thomas

I have tested your release, all works fine but it is very ugly ;)
the installation process works fine, but the install module from backend shows only a debug table with some informations. is this correct?

Hi Frank,
yes that's correct! It's just ja proof that a module can be loaded in the backend. ;-)
And you're right. It's still ugly. I'll talk to Jens next week to discuss the template for the installation.

Greets and thanks for testing,
Thomas

Hi, just tested your installer and I have some comments:
Setup: File typo3conf/ENABLE_INSTALL_TOOL should be included in your package

Step 4: Why is there a drop down list to select which tables should be created? Is there really any alternative to your preset?
Step 6: The congratulations screen should contain a link to the BE
Step 6: Include second link to BE with: "go to BE and delete ENABLE_INSTALL_TOOL"

Addition: Some help with the setup of IM/GM and GD-lib would be really cool as this seems to be awfully difficult for most novices.

Good work
maxhb
