Since I don't use Thunderbird anymore, I got many mails with patches in Textfiles. Most of them where displayed inline in my mail client and couldn't be downloaded as file. The only way to get them out of that mail is copy the content from the mailclient and paste it into a new textdocument.
That is pretty annoying because I loose filenames and if you have more than one file attached to the mail, it's getting even worst to split the files up.
Now you could say, that my mail client isn't that great and you might be right but on the other hand I would like to say, that sending attached files inline isn't very clever either.
So here is a solution for all thunderbird users (I still use it for reading the newsgroups). Go to Tools > Options. Select panel advanced and tab General. Start the Config Editor and search for mail.content_disposition_type and set it to 1. This forces Thunderbird to send all attachments as real attachments and not inline. This is much more compatible than the default behavior in my eyes.
Greets,
Thomas
