Hello,
you might already recognized that the core team has released the first beta version of TYPO3 version 4.2. At least I wrote about that. ;-) A lot of great new features made their way into the core.
First of all, the new backend with some very neat improvements in terms of usability. Okay, there are some things that I don't like. For example the tooltips that don't pop up at the right position from time to time or the clear cache menu on the top of the window. Don't get me wrong, I like it in general but what I dislike is, that menu don't drop down automatically when I roll over it with the mouse. Clearing the cache is just one click wider away than in the old layout. At least for people with bigger screens who had the clear cache link always in view. Anyway, we still have some time to fix this things in some way.
Another great new feature is the t3editor. I wrote about that project several times now and it made great progress. Like in the new backend, the editor still has some glitches like complete refusal for work in Safari on Mac but I will try to get this done the next days.
That brings me to the next point... You might ask why I have time to work on the editor and you might also heard that the installer will not be in TYPO3 4.2. Okay I wrote that here too... ;-)
I don't want to tell long stories about the things that might went wrong or what could have been done better. In the end, it is just a really huge project with a lot of things to think about.
Some times I lost time due to some personal reasons, new apartment etc., and sometimes I didn't asked long enough to the responses I needed. To be honest, I'm not the unhappiest man on earth at the moment. The shift to version 4.3 gives me the chance to overhaul the exiting concepts and do some things better and last but not least implement the missing features. I'm pretty sure that we can do a really great piece of software for the next release that opens the door for a lot of other nice backend improvement in terms of usability.
I have some people helping me with that and now we have another year for thinking and coding. So stay tuned and please don't be dissapointed.
Greets,
Thomas
P.S.: Thanks to Ingo and the hole core-team for it's tremendous work. They did a great job!

Well, one can live only so long by basically exploiting oneself, so I think it's very understood in...
As you mentioned above, " it is much faster to copy and paste the needed stuff from other files." ...
Thanks for your great work and good luck!
++ Michael Cannon! Thanks Thomas for all your work, don't disappear! I read your blog regularly ...

Hello Thomas,
thank you for your honest words. Look straight forward to version 4.3 and the implementation of the new installer. It is the work of people like you that TYPO3 is so powerful.
Keep it up!
Greats,
Stephan
