People without a live

Hi,

the last weeks I saw a very bad tendence in the internet. Maybe it's just me but I have a bad feeling about some folks in the world wide web. Well, that might sound a bit strange on first reading but let me explain.

I guess everyone who reads this page knows that Apple has released a new iPhone generation. If you don't know I'm pretty sure, that you are aware of the fact, that there are some companies outside your appartment that produces hard and software. I assume that you know TYPO3, and that tells me that you know what "Open Source" is. (At least im 99% sure that you know it.) You should also now the world wide web. If not, try to explain how you read this post in the comments below the text.

Now that we have clarified the basics I want to get to the point. The last weeks, I have the feeling that it is a hobby of many many people in the world wide web to blame products of other people or companies on the one hand and yelling into the world how great the stuff is they actually use. Is it just me or is this like Kindergarten?

I mean, how can someone be satisfied by searching for every hair in the soup and call others stupid and incompetent just because the use or like something they don't like, don't want, can't achieve, can't understand or I don't know what...

My favorite example for this at the moment is the iPhone 3G or iPhone in general. It's a given fact, that the iPhone does not support MMS. Okay, that might be bad for some people who use that technology but is that really a reason to say "the iPhone is totally useless". Is it arrogant if I say that this people have an horizon till the end of the table? Okay, MMS is a feature that is build in most of the other devices. But is it useful just because it's built in? Be honest... How many times did you used MMS in your life. If I recapture, I guess I used it 10 times in 12 years of using mobile phones. So for me, this is definitely a feature I can abstain from. Maybe I would understand the people who say that the iPhone is a piece of crap because it does not support MMS IF the iPhone would not provide any alternatives. But look, it does!
The magic word is e-mail. Most phones already support e-mail, but why is it not used? Maybe because the "normal" phones are really bad from a usability point of view? Whatever the reason is, I don't say that phone XY is shit because it does not support e-mail like all the iPhone haters do. It seems they don't get tired of barking their totally uninteresting opinion again and again and again everywhere something is written about the iPhone.

To make one thing clear. I am NOT an iPhone fanboy! I waited for the iPhone 3G because I missed the 3G in the first generation device. I still miss some things in the current release! Things like sending contacts via bluetooth or email. But the difference is, that I have my opinion which I only the people if they actually ask me. I do not wait in the T-Mobile store and tell my f**king story everyone who just want to look around. I'm really pissed by those people who do that over and over again.

By the way, this is not only about Apple and the iPhone. It's almost the same with Microsoft products. Especially XBOX 360 and PS3. Look at any existing news-portal that writes about both products. It doesn't matter which product is in the focus of the actual article. You can be sure, that right after the article was released, the opposite party will begin to blame the product. That seems to force the other side to reply on this gauntlet. Some times I have the feeling that everyone needs his personal vendetta about the most unimportant thing on the world.

I could give many more examples. For example Windows vs. Linux vs. OS X, OpenSource against the rest of the world, Cats vs. Dogs, Sun vs. Rain etc.

Don't get me wrong! I'm not against or for anything in that list. I really love OpenSource software and there are things I don't like that much, no question. But the point is, that I don't tell my opinion on that everywhere I am and to everyone who is around and don't care for it.

So what's the bottom line? All I would like to see is that the people stop blaming other people just because they can. If you have an opinion keep it for you or tell it the people that asked for it. If you think that someone stink, try to understand that on the other side of the line is human being. It absolutely not necessary to insult anyone or spread your bad vibrations just because you have another opinion or a bad poo in the morning.

And one of the most important things is: "If you don't have a clue, shut the hell up!"

Greets,
Thomas

P.S.: Sorry for the rude words. If anybody felt insulted - sorry for that, too!

Do not care listening to those people, and your life will be a lot more convenient. People just lost the ability to discuss (without trying to proselytize someone along the way).

Another human ability that internet is going to kill silently.

You asked, I'll answer:
I'm using MMS every day - passively. Via MMS I'm getting important emails in realtime - a service of O2. So MMS is a feature I would definitely miss if I had an IPhone. What I want to say: there's always someone who is missing one specific feature.

If you want to have the ultimate example of what you just wrote, just look at the comments to ANY article on the German news portal heise.de ... When I'm in the mood I find that behaviour quite amusing otherwise it's just sad.

hi thomas, imho it's a matter of 1. free speech 2. main stream (revolution by "underdogs").
if you start a huge marketing for a device you'll always get criticism like with every film or book or car. in some cases this might also be intended because it's also publicity. the bigger the marketing is, the more criticism you'll get. if not the marketing is the trigger, than os-religion - people like dogmas.
additionally we live in this over communicated world with all it's advantages and disadvantages: blogs, news, twitter, skype, jabber, mms, sms, mobile phone, email, ...
i've got no clue how to get the advantages without the disadvantages but i try it every day ;-)
since i'm also pissed by the trolls, for me the only possibility is to stop reading this kind of "free speech" or ignore it.
gina
p.s. the iphone sucks 'cause you can't send contacts and connect bluetooth devices ;-)

@all: Thanks for your "non trolling" comments. :-D

@Marcus: Sure, but that's no reason to rant on other peoples work.

@Susanne: Yeap. Most of the time it's funny but some of the comments are so unbelievable stupid that it physically hurts.

@Gina: Yes the bluetooth thing pisses me off. As I told you some time ago, I never sent any contact data but if I would like to do so I think there is an application in the AppStore that can send contacts via e-mail. I'm not yet sure if it costs anything.

Thomas
