7 hours to make FLOW3 run

Hi,

I'm currently sitting around with Tobi and Christopher in Raisdorf near Kiel (Germany). Our original plan was to make a code-sprint for F3PR, the FLOW3-Package-Reposity.

Well, that was our plan. We are here since yesterday evening and what we achieved until now is, that we have a running FLOW3 on our machines. Sounds great doesn't it? Now, you might ask why this took so long. The problem was PHP!

In some documents, the most recent issue of T3N magazin for example, PHP 5.2.0 is stated as mininum version requirement. That is wrong!!! The complete PHP 5.2.X branch is not able to run FLOW3. You'll need a PHP 5.3 alpha1 to run FLOW3. And now something important! You need alpha1, not alpha2 or any other snapshot!!!

We now needed 7 hours just for getting it up and running on three Linux systems. I'm a bit feared about the rest of the workshop now.

Greets,
Thomas

Hallo
Könntest du in einem (mini-)Tutorial kurz erkären wie du unter Linux die PHP-Version 5.3alpha1 zum laufen gebracht hast? Wäre super nett!!!
Gruss

Hi,

check out http://forge.typo3.org/wiki/flow3-f3pr/php53.

I think I have to check my encoding. ^^

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

"You need alpha1, not alpha2 or any other snapshot!!!"

Thats not right. Just yesterday i compiled the latest snapshot of PHP 5.3 and FLOW3 just runs fine...
Additional i recommend to compile apache from source if you already have an installed apache and want to leave it untouched...
For Windows it is more important what you take, for that i recommend the downloads under http://downloads.php.net/pierre/ and not the latest snapshots.

At all i recommend to check the mailing lists (typo3.projects.typo3-5_0.general and typo3.teams.core-v5) there are already tipps for different OS...

Hi Timmy,

well, it might work with alpha2 or whatever, but we had reproducible segmentation faults from PHP when we ran the unit tests. But maybe we had some wrong configure options for PHP.

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

ok, i did the unit tests and got a segmentation fault, too. But the rest of FLOW3 seems to run acceptable...
I will take back take back my claim and go back to alpha1, too...

Sorry to give the wrong recommendations here...

Cheers,
Timmy.

Hi Timmy,

no problem. I said that alpha1 is the only choice because we want to rely on the tests. Who knows what happens somewhere inside FLOW3? If something throws a seg fault we can't be sure that it does not come from our code works or some fancy injected stuff inside FLOW3. ;-)

Greets,
Thomas
