Hello,
today I made a serious decision. I struggled around with this for a very long time. Some of you already knew it because I talked to various people about this.
To make it short. Today I officially stop the installer project. This means, that the project will not be finished by me. This does not mean that project is dead but I can't give an estimation if and when it will be finished.
The reasons for this decision are pretty difficult and have a long history. Many things happend over the last several months and I had many situations where I just want to plunk it. Now I reached a point where it is impossible for me to continue my work.
It's basically a personal decision. Most of the things I have done for TYPO3 where on a voluntary base. I got nothing for it. That is okay because I never did it for the money. But now I recognized, that it influenced my private life in such a dramatic way that I can't accept. I lived in steady situation of stress, anger and time pressure. I can not handle the responsibility anymore.
I feel a bit sad, because I made a lot of promises in the past that I can't fullfil now. But honestly, my private strength and my mental health is much more important to me. I hope all of you understand that.
I just want to say thanks, to all people who supported me with this. Especially François Suter, Patrick Gaumond and of course my girlfriend. Thank you for all you did and I hope I don't disappoint you too much. I also want to thank my employer who gave me the chance to work on this.
Beside this step I also have another announcement to make. I will not longer work as active core developer for some time. From today I'll take an out-time and be in inactive state. I hope I can regain my motivation and energy to come back with filled batteries in some months.
This does not mean that I will completely disappear from the community. I will keep up my work in the local usergroup and of course I will stay in the T3DD09 orga team because it's fun to do it together with Gina! I will also continue my work for F3PR, the future package manager for FLOW3.
I wish you all the best,
Thomas

As I already told you privately, I hold absolutely no grudge against you. You did your best and reaching this decision was certainly not easy. So I congratulate for having the courage to take it and hope you will benefit fully from this off-time.

Thomas good luck on the next adventures. Being able to step back at times is a skill to moving forwards again. Tis a nice paradox. Cheers!

Hi Thomas,
I just wanna wish you the best, and I wanna thank you for the great job you did. Many people started learning TYPO3 because of your so easy-to-use installer.
Hope to see you soon back on track.
Enjoy your off-time !!

At the first glance it seems to be a pity, that you've stopped working at the installer ( I really was looking forward for it), but I'm sure, that you took the right decision and that it will be finished someday.
I wish you all the best, that you will come back to your strength soon and that you will have much fun coding for T3 again some time.

++ Michael Cannon!
Thanks Thomas for all your work, don't disappear! I read your blog regularly and so don't stop that either (even if it is different topics : )

Well, one can live only so long by basically exploiting oneself, so I think it's very understood in the light of family duties and life as a whole that you got rid of that obviously cumbersome task. Nevertheless, your work is certainly deeply appreciated.
